Denim Remix
Denim Remix: Learning Labs 2024-2025
Denim Remix was one of the 10 winning projects of the third edition of Learning Labs and was carried out within the framework of the project Creative FLIP.
The goal of the Learning Labs is to develop innovative co-creation projects with local schools, introducing students to creative professions and skills. This year, the focus was on the field of fashion and sustainable textiles.
THE PROJECT
Our project focused primarily on textile waste in fashion, and in this case, the basis of our experimentation and learning was the creation of a small accessory from post-consumer jeans. The project was implemented in collaboration with the first-year secondary school students of the Sagrat Cor Diputació School in Barcelona.
THE PROCESS
During six sessions we worked in small groups with collaborative activities that combined design thinking, participatory processes and co-creation.
The creation of the accessory became our tool to explore the entire textile production chain, from waste to reinvention.
We learned to design by taking into consideration the needs of our classmates, created prototypes, and learned about the steps involved in fashion and creative professions. We designed a logo to reflect on intellectual property, and finally, we sewed our accessories.
In addition, we visited the Gracia Digital Fabrication Center, where we experimented with digital fabrication techniques such as the use of lasers and the application of vinyl to create their logos.
Finally, a celebrattion event was organized in which the students displayed their creations and shared experiences.
This program was an invitation for young people to rethink fashion and materials through recycling and sustainability.
OUTCOMES
During the project:
- 90 students from three classrooms participated and co-created 30 accessories from scratch
- We have reflected on the impact of fashion and the solutions we can seek
- We shared experiences with the students’ teachers and laid the ground for future collaborations.
- The students learned different design techniques and made their own products
- The students summarized and compiled all the information gathered during the sessions and gave an exhibition open to the entire school.
